Below is the latest severe weather update through Friday from WebEOC. Please make sure all electronic devices are fully charged.
The risk for widespread severe weather has decreased overnight and is expected to decrease after today.
Overview:
A surface boundary is draped across southern Georgia and is the main focus for showers and thunderstorms today. Although this boundary is south of the forecast area, showers and thunderstorms could extend into southern-central Georgia this morning. For this afternoon, models are indicating a more diurnally driven setup with afternoon showers and thunderstorms into the evening (mostly sub severe but cannot rule out a severe storm at this time).
Main Impacts:
- Damaging wind gusts (up to 60 mph)
- Hail (up to 1″)
- Heavy Rainfall that could lead to flooding
Flooding Threat into Tonight:
- Showers and thunderstorms oriented along the surface boundary in a west-east orientation could lead to an increased risk for flooding through tonight.
- 2-4″ of rainfall has occurred with localized areas up to 5″ in west central Georgia and another 1-3″ is possible through this evening.
- A Flood Watch is still in effect through this evening to account for the increased rainfall in west central Georgia
- Flash flooding is possible especially in urban areas and areas with poor drainage
- Excess runoff could also lead to flash flooding
