The Georgia Department of Public Health (DPH) is monitoring two Georgia residents who returned home after disembarking from the MV Hondius, the cruise ship at the center of a hantavirus outbreak. The individuals are currently in good health and show no signs of infection. They are following current recommendations from CDC.
Additionally, two other Georgia residents who disembarked the ship on May 10 have been transported to Emory University’s Serious Communicable Diseases Unit in Atlanta. Federal healthcare workers are taking every precaution needed in each of these cases, and there is no risk to the public at this time. DPH remains in active communication with the CDC and other partners and will continue to do so as needed, as we monitor developments over the coming days and weeks.
