SUMMARY:AWR 147: Rail Car Incident Response Training
DESCRIPTION:AWR 147 is an 8-hour\, DHS/FEMA-certified\, tuition-free\, awareness-level course developed to educate rural emergency responders on freight rail car incidents involving hazardous materials. Upon completion of this course\, participants will be better prepared to respond to a freight rail car incident without endangering the health and safety of responders. \n\n\n\nTopics include (but not limited to): \n\n\n\n\nDesign\, construction\, components and markings of rail tank cars\n\n\n\nRecognition and identification of chemicals being transported\n\n\n\nScene assessment and identification of potential hazards\n\n\n\nMitigation strategies for breached freight cars\n\n\n\nKey resources identification from rail/freight industry as well as federal\, state\, and private resources\n\n\n\n\nWho should attend:  \n\n\n\n\nFirefighters\n\n\n\nOther first responders including law enforcement personnel\n\n\n\nEmergency management personnel\n\n\n\nOther community stakeholders\, including railroad representatives\n\n\n\n\nThe course registration deadline is January 9 at 5 p.m. \n\n\n\nThere is no cost for the training.
